One of the biggest obstacles college students face is the rising cost of tuition. Attending college is a large investment leaving many with tens of thousands of dollars in debt. Thankfully, there are solutions to help students overcome this obstacle. Scholarships are financial awards organizations offer to qualifying students to help pay for their education. The best part about scholarships is that it’s money you don’t have to pay back. Limited income shouldn’t be a factor when deciding if college is an option. College is an option for everyone, and scholarships help make it happen.

The word scholarship is often associated with students who are graduating at the top of the class or students who are varsity athletes. What students don’t realize is that scholarships are for everyone. There are scholarships that you can qualify for based on your ethnicity, there are even scholarships that require just an application. All you have to do is apply! The earlier students start applying the better. The goal is to start accumulating as many awards as possible, to pay as little out of pocket as possible.

Blue Cares, a non-profit organization and community outreach program of the San Antonio Police Officers’ Association, offers support to students with the Blue Cares Scholarship. The Blue Cares Scholarship honors San Antonio Police Officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Fallen Officers are honored by awarding the Blue Cares Scholarship to well-deserved applicants each year. The Blue Cares Scholarship is currently accepting applications from graduating High School seniors until Friday, February 12, 2021. This is a great opportunity for students who want to further their education who are in need of financial support. The requirements are kept minimal to give most High School seniors a chance at being awarded the scholarship. If you know a student who might meet the requirements, please share this information with them because the deadline is quickly approaching!
