Blue Cares is a non-profit organization that heavily relies on individual and business donations that advance The San Antonio Police Officers’ Association Benefit Fund. The mission of Blue Cares is to provide year around services and assistance to underprivileged, low-income, at risk children and their families. Blue Cares makes a difference in people’s lives with donations given by the local community. Blue Cares oversees various projects, learn more about where your money goes!
The Blue Santa Program

This program was created in 1976 to help bring happiness to San Antonio families for the holidays. In December, Blue Santa, along with other volunteers and police officers, deliver needed items to underprivileged children and their families. All money raised from our three biggest events goes to the SAPOA Outreach program to fund our Blue Santa project.

The Blue Cares Scholarship

This scholarship was created in memory of Officer Patricia Calderon who died in the line of duty on December 27, 1988. Officer Calderon served five years with the San Antonio Police Department and was the first female officer killed in the line of duty. Winners are announced in April.

Project CJ (Caring For Juniors)

This food assistance program benefits Title One elementary school students who come from low-income families. Their goal is to ensure children have enough healthy snacks and food options during their time away from school and on weekends.
Other projects your money supports include the Backpack Drive, where Blue Cares collects generously donated back packs to San Antonio students in need, annual special events like the partnership with the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, where Blue Cares donated $20,000 toward renovation of the Children’s Oncology Unit, and the Bike Program, where San Antonio police officers donate repaired and cleaned bikes to kids in local elementary and middle schools.

If you’re interested in giving to Blue Cares, your donation is completely tax-deductible. These programs and projects are not possible without the support of generous San Antonio locals doing their part to improve the lives of unfortunate children and families.
